CONFORM-ITARIAN-ISM @ Brooklyn Art Haus

Join us for the premiere of a new aerial play, just in time for spooky season - after all, what’s scarier than trying to survive CONFORMITARIANISM?

What a gift it has been to work on this charming, eerie, comic, chilling, and timely piece! Part-circus, part-play, part-coming-of-age-fairytale, part-dystopian-horror-story, this work blends a variety of movement practices and genres to tackle some big questions about what it means to live in a world hostile to authenticity. Collaborative devising is one of my favorite ways to create new work, and this project was particularly special because I got to lead this wildly talented ensemble of movement artists through the devising process! I’m deeply grateful to Kaitlin for entrusting me with this responsibility, and to Emily, Heather, and Pazit for approaching this work with such generosity and playfulness. We can’t wait to share what we’ve created with you all!

CONFORMITARIANISM (presented by Cirkus Moxie) is an original devised aerial play that explores the relationship between authoritarianism and social conformity, and examines the toll that these forces take on women and their bodies. Are freedom and individuality possible in this kind of world, and if so, at what cost?

CONFORMITARIANISM runs Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30pm at Brooklyn Art Haus. Tickets can be purchased here. If you can’t make it but would still like to support, you can donate to our GoFundMe here!
